CUSTOM LOVIN' NEW YORKERS
By: blondie@bikeweek.com
Posted: Jul.24.07 |
The East Side Custom Choppers trio, Dave Torres, Sam Torres, and Mike Caruso will be making an appearance on Main St. in Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest® with a new addition to their pack-the 2007 DS-Savage. Fantastic paint, done by Mike Terwilliger of Visual Impact on Long Island, is the cherry on this monsterous, metallic sundae. A diamond cut motor with a blower and 8-1 compression, internal twist clutch and throttle and one off gas tank are the other ingredients in the mix.
The credo at East Side Custom Choppers is 'function before fashion'. The bikes are all manufactured with performance as a priority, but they are works of art as well. Just about every part on their bikes, down to the frames, is created by the guys on site. Owner of the Daytona Beach biker bar, Wiseguys Watering Hole, bought one of their designs. Ripe-plum colored paint and lots of chrome make this bike a site for custom-loving eyes. It's in the parking lot of his bar, Wise Guys II on Main St., that you will find the customs created by the boys from New York. More details

Mike Calderone: A Modern-Day Master

“Mike Terwilliger is my personal hero,” said Calderone. “He comes from the same town I do, Massapequa. And I was just so proud.”
Mike views the popularity of motorcycling and the resultant television coverage phenomenal for business. “ People who never in their lives would have bought a motorcycle now go get one, and guess what? Well, you have to personalize it. Change the seat and bars. In the end, it has to look cool. I have a good aspect of the business because everyone will always need paint.” Click here for Iron Horse Magazine.

'66 Harley-Davidson Shovelhead- The Right Thing To Do
writer: Steve Bohn
photographer: Ya Gotta, Dino Petrocelli
...Mike broke out some new S&S wheels and rods, and set them in the polished STD cases. Next, he bored the S&S cylinders and reworked the H-D heads so he could send them to Color Life for a protective layer of silver powdercoat. While they were under way, the guys at Color Life took the time to polish the fins before sending them back to Mike. The shiny, new cylinders and heads were slid over the S&S pistons and capped off with a set of chromed Shovelhead rocker boxes. Bringing the motor to life is an S&S carb, Crane cam, Dyna ignition, and a set of Mike's own hand-built exhaust pipes....
